Resounding Rhythms holds weekly classes in Guinean, West African drumming technique on Thursday evenings from 6pm-8pm. This is a mixed level class; beginners learn alongside more advanced students and we are continually learning from each other and growing with each other.
Our classes are non-competitive, appropriately challenging and lots of fun. We focus on proper technique, traditional hand patterns, accompaniment rhythms and solos on djembe and traditional melodies from the West African Village on dunun. We focus equally on djembe and dunun to give our students as well-rounded an education as possible with a bit of history and drumming facts thrown in whenever appropriate. We remain students ourselves and enjoy passing on whatever we learn from our teachers to our students, thereby keeping the cycle of West African music and melody alive. We hope to ingrain in our students a joy and love for West African drumming and also train them to be the best musicians they want to be.
It has been our pleasure to share and teach these lovely, rhythmic melodies to many students since 2006. We'd be pleased to have you join our drumming community and be a part of our extended family. We invite new students to try a drop-in class and see if Resounding Rhythms is right for you.
We look forward to hearing from you!
