Join us as we welcome Sayon Camara back from wintering in Guinea, West Africa!
If you have yet to study with Sayon, now is the time. If you’ve already studied with Sayon, you’ll be sure to want more.
There are few Djembefolas with the rare gifts of both musical mastery and true generosity. Sayon has both these gifts and so much more to offer his students. We feel fortunate and humbled to be able to bring Sayon back to Maine for a 2-day workshop intensive. Be prepared for fun, mind expansion, hands-on learning, and a general opening of your heart and senses as you move deeper into learning this powerful music from West Africa. Sayon’s incredible timing and feel for the music of his homeland can bring you back the core of your own self.
Both days we will drum on Djembe and Dunun. Sayon likes to teach a whole rhythm each day. You will learn the song and meaning of the piece of music, Djembe accompaniment, Djembe solo lines, and all Dunun parts. Be prepared with your audio recording devices and to take notes!
All playing and experience levels, from beginner through advanced, are welcome to these workshops.
These workshops will be taught at our home, in our intimate drumming studio space.

MORE ABOUT SAYON CAMARA
Sayon is a West African drumming master with the rare gifts of kindness, emotional warmth, and clarity-of-purpose. He lovingly shares the rich culture of the drum and the music and song from the Sankaran region of Guinea. With an amazing 14 year apprenticeship to world-renowned Famoudou Konate, during which Sayon was a member of Famoudou’s Hamana Foli Kan ensemble along with Billy Konate, Nansady Keita, and others, Sayon is honored to think of Famoudou as his drum father. Sayon's impeccable sense of musical time, his mastery of Guinean melody on dunun, and his sound on the djembe that is as clear as a bell, make him an excellent teacher for advanced and beginning students alike.
